Name: Alix LaFree

Undergraduate education and degree: Alix graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Community and Behavioral Health in May 2018.

Law School: Alix is currently attending the University of Maryland Carey School of Law where she will graduate in May 2021 with a Health Law Certificate.

Why did you decide to go to law school?
I decided to go to law school because I wanted a profession that interested me and fit with my skill set. From majoring in public health in college, I knew I was interested in health but not necessarily in the academic or community-oriented route of public health. Law gives me the opportunity to combine my interest in health with the opportunity to handle individual client problems.

Why did you decide to pursue this position specifically with Potter Law, LLC?
I decided to pursue a position with Potter Law, LLC because I felt that Potter Law, LLC’s working environment was one in which I could thrive both personally and professionally. I like that Potter Law, LLC has a family-like feel and is a supportive workplace. Furthermore, I am genuinely interested in the types of legal matters Potter Law, LLC handles.

Describe a typical day on the job.
While I just started working at Potter Law, LLC this past January, I would say no day at the office is ‘typical.’ However, that being said, a lot of my work comes in the form of research, writing, and shadowing the attorneys.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job so far?
I find it really rewarding that Potter Law, LLC works to give back to the community and to represent those who have been injured.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or projects outside of work?
At Carey Law, I participate in a variety of clubs and organizations. I am the Executive Notes and Comments Editor for the Journal of Health Care Law and Policy and am also a member of the Student Health Law Organization (SHLO).

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy running, listening to true crime podcasts, and playing with my 8-week-old puppy!
