|

Potter Law, LLC has recently welcomed a new law clerk to the Pride.

Meet Rob, a current student at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Learn more about his background and his passion for law by reading our Q&A below.

Name: Rob Stenzel

Where are you from?

“I grew up on the eastern shore of Maryland, did my undergraduate at UMBC, and have been in Baltimore for the last seven years.”

Undergraduate education and degree: Rob received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from UMBC.

Master’s degree: Rob earned a Master of Bioethics from Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics.

Law School: Rob is currently attending the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. He is entering his 2L year and has chosen the focus areas of Health Law and Public Health.

Why did you decide to go to law school?

“To continue my education and career in bioethics, and explore how law, policy, and ethics shape the landscape of healthcare and public health.”

Why did you decide to pursue this position specifically with Potter Law, LLC?

“Being interested in the intersection of law and healthcare, I wanted to get the first-hand experience with medical malpractice cases and the process of making injured person whole. ”

Describe a typical day on the job:

I often spend a portion of each day sitting in on and observing phone calls with clients, expert witness depositions, and other nitty-gritty parts of the attorney’s cases. I am also spending time summarizing clients’ medical records and familiarizing myself with identifying claims from the injuries that clients experience.”

What is the most rewarding thing about your job so far?

“Gaining experience with the non-legal aspects that I don’t necessarily learn in law school. For example, how to prepare an expert for deposition, strategy in deciding what claims to bring and against whom and managing client expectations.”

Are you involved in any clubs or projects outside of work?

“I’m working on a side research project for a professor involving consumer microbiome databases and privacy issues. I am also hoping to get onto one of the school’s law journals, but I won’t know that for a while.”

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

“I have a one-year-old daughter who takes up a lot of my free time, but I am an avid runner training for a marathon (if races ever happen again), and I play guitar.”
