A Calvert County woman died in a weekend Severna Park crash when a pickup crossed the center line and hit her car, police say.
SEVERNA PARK, MD — A Calvert County woman died Saturday when the car she was driving has hit by a pickup truck that crossed the center line, according to Anne Arundel County Police. Caron Tasker, 39, of the 1000 block of Rimrock Road in Lusby, died at a Baltimore trauma center. Police suspect that alcohol use by the pickup driver played a role in the fatal accident.
The crash happened about 1:15 a.m. on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard (MD-648) at Lower Magothy Beach Road in Severna Park. A 2006 GMC pickup truck driven by Kyle Heck, 32, of the 200 block of Wiltshire Lane in Severna Park, was southbound on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard when he lost control of the truck. Police say the pickup crossed the centerline and was struck by a northbound 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio driven by Tasker. The pickup then crashed into a fence on the opposite side of the intersection and overturned.
Tasker was trapped in the Volkswagen, was extricated by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and later died at a hospital. Heck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The preliminary cause of the crash is Heck’s failure to remain right of center. Excessive speed and alcohol use by Heck may be contributing factors, police said. Any charges will be filed after review by the State’s Attorney.
