Bowie, Maryland (April 24, 2017) – Potter Law, LLC is pleased to announce a $1.12 Million verdict in Harford County Circuit Court on Friday. The Plaintiffs, Joseph and Jodi Glaser filed suit against Allmerica Financial Insurance Company, seeking underinsured motorist benefits. Jodi Glaser was in a collision on June 28, 2012, and suffered permanent injuries; the case was tried on damages only. Allmerica was represented by John O’Neill of Rockville, Maryland. Immediately following the 3-day trial, the jury deliberated for 2 hours awarding the Plaintiffs $57,286.43 in past medical bills, $165,000 in future medical bills, and $900,000 for non-economic damages, including loss of consortium.
It is believed that this is one of the largest auto verdicts in Harford County, known as a conservative jurisdiction. “I have always believed that if you try a good case, and tell the jury a good story through all the supporting witnesses, that the jury will listen attentively and take their job very seriously,” said Deborah Potter. “This could not have been a more deserving couple to receive this verdict. This was a life changing injury, and the verdict reflects the testimony of multiple witnesses, including co-workers, friends, and neighbor.” continued Ms. Potter.
This is the second back-to-back million-dollar verdict for Deborah Potter, and Potter Law. On March 15th, a Baltimore City jury awarded $1.1M in the case of Durham v Persons, 16-000358, also a motor vehicle collision case
“In any kind of personal injury case, my most immediate job is to educate the injured person about what the law allows, what insurance provides, and what their rights are,” Ms. Potter says. Recent increases in cell phone use and other distractions while driving have caused a like increase in collisions. “Car crashes don’t discriminate,” Deborah says. “They can happen to anyone. Each injury and the circumstances surrounding each incident are challenging and different.”
Debbie Potter first made a name for herself with a $26-million-dollar verdict against Ford Motor Company in 1996. She has handled thousands of car crash cases throughout MD and DC. With our aging population and so many individuals in nursing care and assisted living facilities, Debbie has also established a nursing home negligence practice to protect elderly victims from poor care and abuse. Twice named to the list of Top 100 Women in Maryland by The Daily Record, Ms. Potter is active in many associations throughout the state. Her strong commitment to the local community is evident in the volunteer hours she devotes to numerous organizations. She is one of the founders of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) – Anne Arundel County, a nonprofit organization that trains volunteers to represent children in the court system.
